Empire Wind Ensemble introduces new guest conductor, seeks local musicians for band concert

The Empire Wind Ensemble welcomes guest conductor Benjamin Gonzalez as rehearsals begin for the ensemble’s May 24th concert. Gonzalez is a local musician who has been performing in and around the Inland Empire since 2002. With a background in music education, he has taught private instruction, small ensembles, and recently ended a 10 year position as director for the Sozo Jazz Band of Riverside. He will join Music Director Jessica Swanson and guest conductor Mark Szublewski on the podium for the ensemble’s May concert.

The band is also seeking local musicians to perform in the concert. All instruments are warmly welcomed, but there is an immediate need for french horn, clarinet, and percussionists.

Rehearsals are every Wednesday from 7:00-9:00pm at the Women’s Club of San Bernardino, 503 West 31st Street in San Bernardino. The concert will take place at the Women’s Club on May 24th at 7:00pm and will include selections representing the seasons, from classic winter pieces to summer’s Stars and Stripes Forever.

The Empire Wind Ensemble was formed in June 2016 to provide an opportunity for lifelong musical expression and enjoyment, to promote artistic enrichment in the Inland Empire, and preserve the rich repertoire and cultural history of the wind band. The band is comprised of a collection of talented, dedicated musicians who combine a love of music with a desire to help others work together to achieve their highest musical potential.
